Androlab

Dr. Romulo De Nes L

It collects, processes and stores and/or distributes human semen for use in technologically advanced assisted reproduction, which includes, but is not limited to, therapeutic insemination.
Due to the high number of couples with male infertility problems, the need was seen to create a sperm bank to provide an inexpensive, simple and safe option that has a high probability of resulting in pregnancy.

Requirements among which are:

  • Quality of the spermatozoids.
  • Donors in a perfect state of health (examined by specialist doctors).
  • Family history – to avoid passing-on possible genetic conditions.
  • We have a varied selection of donors with a range of physical characteristics.
  • Donors are completely anonymous.

All sperm donors have to undergo a rigorous selection process before being accepted to Androlab’s sperm bank program.

To ensure that the semen is good quality and free of any infectious diseases, the laboratory carries out a complete analysis of the donor and the sample with a minimum of three sperm counts and unfreezing evaluations to compare the fertility of the same with frozen samples.
Among the tests that the donor must undergo are the following:

Personal interviews which focus on:

  • Personal and family health record
  • Sexual past and history of drug use (to evaluate the risk of HIV and sexually transmitted diseases, STDs)
  • Exhaustive check of family medical history to assess possible genetic factors
  • Blood, urine and semen examinations
  • Complete physical evaluation carried out by a doctor

Laboratory exams include:

  • Full range of blood tests
  • Blood group and RH
  • VIHI y II
  • HBS Ag
  • BH c Ag
  • HCV
  • VDRL/RPR
  • CMV Ig M
  • Cholesterol
  • Glucose
  • Total bilirubin
  • TGO
  • TGP
  • Chlamydia antibodies
  • Urine
  • Standard semen culture (to detect possible gonorrhea)
